Join Us on Tour!
In May, a group of EAC singers and friends is making tracks to Italy for the fourth time. Our destination is Lippiano, a small village on the border between Umbria and Tuscany where we will stay and sing together at a superb old manor house, and perform two concerts in nearby towns to raise funds for cancer research. The venue is the Villa Pia, and the dates are May 3rd - 10th.
For the avoidance of doubt, Umbria is in Italy, and nowhere near the Lake District.
Our conductor Leslie Olive says:
"Some of the best FUN we have ever had with the EAC has been on our European tours. Eating together as a team, relaxing in an informal group over a drink or two, luxuriating in a fabulous holiday location: even having proper time to rehearse without too much pressure – it’s a joyful mutual experience that nourishes the spirit and creates happy memories that make you smile for years afterwards. We are offering a few additional experienced singers the chance to join us - don’t miss it! It’s one of the best things we do.
Going on tour has considerable musical benefits. It gives you the chance to enjoy consort singing. Our group on tour is usually smaller than the full EAC, so we sing “smaller” music, a good deal of it unaccompanied. While we enjoy the Verdis and the Elijahs and the glorious monsters like the Sea Symphony with full symphony orchestra with the full chorale, we can also enjoy the lighter taste on the palette of exquisite music for small choir by living composers, 20th-Century composers and the Renaissance masters.
To all of that, add a simply glorious location, nestled in the hills on the borders of Umbria and Tuscany. The Telegraph says that Umbria is a region where “the food, wine, art, culture and architecture are the equal of any in Italy”.
The repertoire for the two concerts is being finalised but has the theme "Love" (Amore) as its focus. I will be coaching and conducting, with Jonathan Lilley at the piano or organ.
Villa Pia where offers full board accommodation (most meals and drink included) for £850, with some ensuite singles for an additional £100 and singles with shared bathrooms for an extra £50. It’s a place which one of our members, who travels a lot to sing and knows a good thing when she sees one, found for us. The 2024 tourists agree with her that it is a fabulous place.
Certainly an opportunity not to be missed. We have a few spaces left; singers of the lower register would be particularly welcome. Just think about it, a week's singing in the heart of Italy - you are allowed an anticpatory smile.
Best wishes
Les"
