2022-2023 Season No. 43
2021-2022 << 2022-2023 >> 2023-2024
RVW150 - two performances of Vaughan Williams' majestic A Sea Symphony, straddling the 150th anniversary of his birth, in a programme that also includes his A London Symphony.
We celebrated Christmas with a "Christmas Sparkler" in Reigate - Messiah Christmas music, plus trumpet and vocal jewels.
Our concert in March 2023 featured Gabriel Fauré's Requiem and Sunrise Mass by the Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo.
Our Summer Concert in July included another French requiem setting, by Duruflé, and Poulenc's Gloria, and was followed by a French-themed buffet party to mark the end of the season.
During the season we hosted two open singing days, working on Verdi and Mozart Requiems, in November and February respectively, and we welcomed singers to two open rehearsals on Haydn's Nelson Mass and Mozart's Mass in C-minor.

Fauré Requiem, Gjeilo Sunrise Mass
Gjeilo (pronounced Yay-lo) is a Norwegian composer. The choir is familiar with Gjeilo’s choral compositions, having featured his work The Ground on their CD Radiance. Sunrise is a setting of the traditional church Mass as a human spiritual journey in four movements, with The Ground concluding the final movement. Founder and artistic director of the English Arts Chorale, Leslie Olive, is looking forward to conducting Sunrise Mass: “the choir specialises in a blended sound of which I am very proud; I believe Gjeilo’s work will give us a chance to show this at its best”.
Complementing this contemporary piece will be Fauré’s well-known and much-loved Requiem.
